ANXIETY And How I (try to) Deal With It

I have problems with anxiety. I had my first anxiety attack sometime last year and IT. WAS. ABSOLUTELY. TERRIBLE. My body was shaking uncontrollably, my heart was racing, I was hot and cold at the same time, I was nauseas and I felt like I couldn't breath. The day after my anxiety attack I felt so exhausted. My body was so achy and it felt like it had been through an ordeal (which it had).
Sometimes, I don't even know when they're going to come. Sometimes I feel like I'm going to have one when I'm in large crowds or sometimes right before I go to bed. It doesn't matter, sometimes they just wanna come. So I have had to figure out some different ways to try to deal with them. That's what today's post is going to be about. How I try to deal with anxiety.

GET YOUR MIND OFF OF YOURSELF AND ONTO GOOD THINGS

This is a BIG BIG BIG thing in dealing with anxiety. When I had my first anxiety attack, my parents and Kristen took me in the living room, turned on a movie, and Kristen looked at Pinterest with me. I felt really sick at that time but it really helped in keeping my mind off of myself. And the more I kept my mind off of myself, the better I started to feel.
And you need to try and think about good things. Think about things that make you happy.

TAKE ONE THING AT A TIME

Sometimes looking at the big picture can be very overwhelming. But usually the situation is not as bad as it seems. Normally we take a small problem and magnify it, making it something huge, when in reality, it's normally something that can be dealt with very easily. So instead of looking at everything, try to keep calm and only take one thing at a time.

KEEP YOURSELF BUSY

Keeping myself busy on a daily basis has REALLY helped in reducing the amount of anxiety attacks I get. I've learned that if I stay busy with chores, blogging, exercising, spending time with family, whatever it may be, I don't have as much time to think about myself (see #1) which helps me fight my anxiety. I have a lot of trouble at night, for some reason, with anxiety, so if I exercise or spend a lot of time outdoors, I'll be more tired at night and ready to go the sleep. This way, I don't even have time to think about myself.

PRAY AND ASK THE LORD TO HELP YOU

This is the best one I can give. Pray and ask the Lord to help you not have anxiety, and if you are already in the middle of it, pray and ask Him to help get you through it.

My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth.    - Psalms 121:2

Whether you have a small case of nerves (which I have trouble with also) or you suffer from anxiety attacks, these four things should help you out.

Also, shout out to Kristen for helping me write this post (a fellow anxiety sufferer xD) (does that even make sense?)

Have you ever had to deal with anxiety? What are some things you do that help? Did this post help you in any way? Let's talk in the comments :)

I've never had a big anxiety attack, but I have dealt with smaller bouts, and I can only imagine how difficult and scary one can be.
Keep going strong girl. <3 He's got you.

    1. Thanks for reading! Yes, my sister loves taking warm baths when she's stressed. Sometimes she adds lavender bath salts which makes it SUPER relaxing :)

  5. Hello! This was a pretty nice post! I don't exactly suffer from anxiety attacks but I do have some anxiety traits that seem to span over days. Like before life-changing exams or any other stress, I'll be crying and having trouble eating and losing a lot of weight @__@ it's not fun at all. Sometimes, it just happens because of stuff people say to me or anything that just randomly decides to upset me a lot.
It's really important to focus on the positives though. It can be super hard to do at the time, but having friends and family to support you is great. If not, I've personally started keeping a journal of good things that happened to me so that I can go back and read over it whenever I'm not doing so well.
    Have a nice day :)

    1. Hello! Thank you so much! I'm so sorry you have to deal with that. It definitely doesn't sound fun.
Totally agree with you. And a journal is a great idea! Sometimes I write down one nice thing that happened to me during the day and later that week I'll read through them to see how much the Lord has blessed.
Thank you SO MUCH for your comment!

  6. I've never gotten an anxiety attack, but I've struggled with anxiety for years too. Here's a verse I really like: Casting all your anxiety on Him, for He careth for you. -1 Peter 5:7 I'll be praying for you!
