Eighteen is known as the "magic age." The age where we are all considered an adult. And, in a way, we are adults. Legally we are adults. The world thinks of us as adults. Because we can drive, get jobs, we go to college. The world tells us that we are now "grown up." We can do whatever we want now. But what do we really know about the adult life? Are we emotionally and spiritually mature to handle all the situations that come our way completely on our own? What do we really know about buying a house, raising children, keeping a marriage together, and even buying a car? I know I sure don't know much about any of these things, and most other 18 year olds don't know much about these either. And even most 19 and 20 year olds for that matter.
We think that we're ready for adulting because we've graduated high school, we can drive, and we have a job. But we're not ready. We're still kids. Our brains haven't even fully developed. Don't believe me? Check this out.
Although brain development is subject to significant individual variation, most experts suggest that the brain is fully developed by age 25. For some people, brain development may be complete prior to age 25, while for others it may end after age 25. The mid-20s or “25” is just an average age given as checkpoint for when the brain has likely become mature.
It may seem logical that those aged 18 to 25 are completely mature, the brain still is maturing – specifically the area known as the “prefrontal cortex.” Changes occurring between ages 18 and 25 are essentially a continued process of brain development that started during puberty. When you’re 18, you’re roughly halfway through the entire stage of development. The prefrontal cortex doesn’t have nearly the functional capacity at age 18 as it does at 25.

Although you may consider yourself an adult at age 18, keep in mind that your brain still has a ways to develop.
This was taken from a science site on the internet.
So you see, it isn't just me who says that since I'm 18 I'm not an adult.
And sometimes, once a person hits 18, they think they can do whatever they want and go wherever they want even if its against their parents will. The only reason people think this way is because culture tells them this. You will not find this mindset in the Bible at all. As a matter of fact, The Bible says:
Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee. - Exodus 20:12
This Bible verse doesn't have an "age limit." It doesn't say anything about once you turn 18 you don't have to do this anymore. If we are still living under our parents roof, we need to remember that they are providing us with food, a comfortable place to sleep, electricity, and who knows what else. They deserve all the respect we can give and even more. Even if we're not at home and out of the house, they still deserve our respect. They've spent their whole lives raising us and taking care of us.
This is not an option, this is a command from God.
Don't let culture push you into thinking things that aren't true. And just because you're in the minority, doesn't mean your wrong.
Everybody matures at different ages. Don't be in a rush. Don't try to be something, or become something just to please other people; to fit in. To do what everybody else is doing.
Leave your life in God's hands, and He will lead you when it's time for you to leave the nest and marry that man, go to college, get that job, or whatever.

DeleteThank you for sharing this, Maddy! When I became an "adult", I realized how over-emphasized that term is. As a child, I thought adults were always brave and strong and perfect... but no, we need Jesus even more. I never want to be "independent" because, honestly, we need Jesus. Thank you for the encouragement and Godly reminders in this post!
